Open Access to Scientific Production in Latin America: Initiatives, Challenges and Impacts

Main Article Content

Fabiano Couto Corrêa da Silva

This study examines Latin America’s vanguard in promoting open access to scientific pro-duction. Through platforms such as SciELO, RedALyC and LA Referencia, the region has raised the visibility of its research. We identified access policies in government agency and university sites. We also consulted the Re3data, Scielo and ROARMAP databases. The analysis showed challenges, such as financial sustainability and quality of publications. However, Latin America’s commitment to the democratization of knowledge is evident. In conclusion, despite obstacles, the region has demonstrated a strong commitment to open access, transforming the scientific landscape based on the idea that such access fosters science and innovation.
